Support worker helping a participant in a bright shared home in Sydney

High Intensity Care

Skilled, trained support for complex daily needs, at home, in SIL or out in the community.

What is high intensity care?

Some daily personal activities need extra skill and training to be done safely. Under the NDIS these are called High Intensity Daily Personal Activities. Lofty Care Services is a registered NDIS provider approved to deliver them, which means our high intensity supports are delivered under the NDIS Practice Standards for high intensity care.

We take time to understand your needs, your health team's advice and how you like things done, so your support is safe, consistent and respectful.

  • Severe dysphagia (swallowing) management and mealtime support

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a high intensity support?

High intensity daily personal activities are daily supports that need specific training and skills. Examples include complex bowel care, tube feeding, catheter management, seizure management, subcutaneous injections and complex wound care.

Is high intensity care funded by the NDIS?

It can be, when the support relates to your disability and is included in your plan, usually from your Core Supports budget. Your support coordinator or the NDIA can confirm what your plan covers.

Are your support workers trained for high intensity tasks?

Yes. Workers who deliver high intensity support are trained for each specific task and assessed as competent, in line with the NDIS Practice Standards, before they support you.

Can you provide high intensity support in SIL or SDA?

Yes. High intensity supports can be delivered in your own home, in SIL and SDA homes, and in the community.

Do I need a nurse for some tasks?

Some tasks need nursing oversight or are best delivered by a nurse. Lofty Care is also registered for community nursing care, so we can talk with you about the right mix of support.

Yes. Support coordinators, occupational therapists and hospital teams can use our referral form or call us to discuss a participant's needs.
