What is Supported Independent Living?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for support workers who help or supervise you with everyday tasks in your home, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's designed for people with higher support needs who want to live as independently as possible while building their skills.
Most participants receive SIL in a shared home with a small number of housemates, each with their own bedroom. Support can be shared between housemates, or one-to-one where your needs require it.
SIL providers now need to be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (mandatory registration began on 1 July 2026). Lofty Care Services is a registered NDIS provider approved to deliver Supported Independent Living.

SDA
SDA is the home: housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.

Frequently asked questions
What does SIL funding cover?
SIL funds support workers who help or supervise you with daily tasks at home, such as personal care, meals and household tasks, around the clock. It doesn't cover rent, groceries, bills or other day-to-day living costs. You pay those yourself.
Who is eligible for SIL?
SIL is usually for NDIS participants with higher support needs who need someone with them 24 hours a day, with hands-on help for at least 8 of those hours. The NDIA decides whether SIL is reasonable and necessary for you and includes it in your plan.
Do I need SDA to get SIL?
No. SIL and SDA are separate supports. You can receive SIL in an SDA home, a rental, social housing or a home you own. Some participants have both in their plan.
Can I choose my SIL provider?
Yes. You choose your provider, and you can change providers. SIL providers now need to be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, and Lofty Care Services is a registered NDIS provider approved to deliver SIL.
How do I get SIL in my NDIS plan?
Talk to your support coordinator, local area coordinator or the NDIA about your home and living needs, and ask for home and living supports. We're happy to share information about our supports to help.
Do you have SIL vacancies right now?
Availability changes often. Call 0431 714 119 or send an enquiry, and we'll tell you about current SIL options that suit your needs and location.
